2017 ICC Champions Trophy Final Was Unforgettable For Sports Lovers


On Sunday, 18th June 2017 Pakistan defeated India with an incredible margin of 180 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, at the historic ground of Oval. All eyes were stuck on television sets on Sunday.

The last time the two immense cricketing giants faced each other in an ICC event was ten years ago, at the T20 world cup final in South Africa. MS Dhoni led India to a memorable victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup.  India remains one of the best sides in all formats. India had won a champion’s trophy and a world cup in the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Virat has continuously improved himself as a batsman; he is recognized as a world’s top rated batsman of all time.

Sadly, Pakistan cricket suffered a lot and there is a continuous decline in Pakistan cricket.  A shocking attack of terrorists in 2009, on Sri Lanka cricket team brought an end of International cricket in Pakistan.  More than that, Pakistani cricketers were involved in spot fixing case in 2010.

Pakistan is at the number 8th position in the ICC cricket ranking. Most of the Legend cricketers thought that they couldn’t even pass the group stage. The first encounter of Pakistan in ICC champion’s trophy was with India. The two teams rarely played with each other after the incident of Mumbai attacks. After Mumbai attacks Pakistan and India played with each other 16 Times.

Pakistan lost their first group match against India by 124 runs. India outclassed Pakistan in all the departments. Pakistani team looked under-confident in their first match of ICC Champions Trophy. Cricket pundits discussed how far Pakistan can sustain their presence in the Champions trophy. No one could imagine at that time that the team at number 8th position will win the final edition of ICC Champions Trophy.

Pakistan has found some of the amazing talent from Pakistan super league. Fakhar Zaman, the young machine gun, fired at the final of ICC champion’s trophy. Shadab Khan, an 18 year old leg spinner took 4 important wickets in the tournament. However, young cricketers like Ruman Raees and Fahim Ashraf are still under rated, but they can provide a bright future to the unpredictable Pakistan team.

India stepped into the competition with a lot of controversies and troubles. The rumor about rift between bowling coach Anil Kumble and Virat kohli affected the performance of Indian team. On the other hand, a well dominated victory of Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy has given a hope to the people of Pakistan, that ICC would take serious efforts to start cricket in Pakistan.
